Orchard Road
Orchard Road is a large tree-lined avenue where you will find various shopping centers, most exclusive hotels and some of Singapore's best shopping.
The name of the street comes from an orchid plantation that was in place until the beginning of the 20th century. Due to various natural disasters, this plantation disappeared in less than a year.
It was in 1970 when glass buildings such as Plaza Singapura and the Mandarin Hotel laid the foundations for what is now Orchard Road: the most capitalistic side of Singapore.
Istana, the Presidential Palace
You can combine the visit to Orchard Road with a walk to Istana ("palace" in Malay). This palace was built in 1867 for the British governor and is currently the residence of the President of Singapore.
To get to Istana, you have to stop at the MRT Dhoby Ghaut stop and, up Orchard Road, take the Edinburgh Rd which goes on the right hand side.
Touring Orchard Road is one of the must-see tours for any traveler.
A good place to stop along the way is the Istana Park terrace where you can have a drink in one of Singapore's most beautiful bars.
